I haven’t been cycling so much lately, and the main reason seems to be that I’m just so busy with life. Having all the dogs and cats to care for (and entertain) does take a lot of time, and then there’s the garden, and getting all the fetching and carrying jobs done without a car …
I don’t mind all the jobs I have to do, and I still get to ride my bike every time I go on an errand, but going for a ride, just for the fun of it, is the reason I took up cycling in the first place, and I’ve been really missing it.
So, I decided to set up a new routine that fits in 3 rides a week (that seems like an achievable target), and maybe I’ll be able to increase the number as I get used to the routine and fitting in cycling and getting the jobs done.
The other day, I rode a particular Strava segment that’s always been one of my favourites because I set a crazy QOM (Queen of the Mountain) on it a few years back that no-one seems able to beat. I can’t even come close to matching it myself at the moment!
I wasn’t even sure that I still had the QOM, so I checked today, and it turns out I do still have it, and I set it exactly 3 years ago today. At least one person seems to have tried to beat it recently, and came closer than I’m comfortable with. So my goal now is to improve my fitness and set a faster one!
There’s a bit of luck involved with it, though, because there are a couple of roundabouts on the route, and one of them is joining the main road, so it might take a few attempts.
I figure, if I work on getting in some more cycling during the summer, I’ll be in a good position to set a faster speed when the weather cools down in September or October. I’m definitely stronger now than I was 3 years ago.
It’s always good to have goals!
