Allergies and aches

Written by Louise

Well, I didn’t expect that! Maybe the weather gods are being kind to us in preparation for the drop in temperature over the weekend. I think it’s warmer outside than it is in the house this evening.

Weather 20th November 2015

I got a phone call this afternoon (just as I was about to get on the cross trainer) to tell me my blood test results are at the farmacia for me to collect, which was unexpected and very welcome. I could probably have got to town and back before it got dark, but it would have been tight, and I haven’t got any lights on my bike, so I decided to wait until tomorrow morning to collect them. I’m quite excited at the thought of them revealing something useful, but I have been supplementing B12 for about a month now, so I shouldn’t get my hopes up. (I’m still hoping I’ll be able to stick them under my doctor’s nose and say, “See? Told you so.”)

Took the usual supplements today – one Jarrow’s 5,000mcg methylB12 (half in the morning, half late afternoon), two of my new 500mcg B12 capsules that I must look up the make of (at about 7pm after my workout), 2 Quest One-a-Day multivitamins (one morning, one evening), and the usual 30mg of iron bisglycinate before breakfast. I didn’t take any methylfolate today, but I did order some folic acid from Amazon just before I went to bed yesterday, so that will give me another option.

And I was on the drugs again today – caffeine/ibuprofen/paracetamol. But it was still only once. Only a few weeks ago, I was taking painkillers 2 or 3 times a day.

My workout seemed to go well this evening, but I’ve had a bit of an allergic reaction since – I learned recently that my tendency to have violent sneezy allergic reactions sometimes after exercise is called exercise-induced rhinitis. I did 10km in 42 minutes again, but 30 minutes of it was with the tension on the next setting up from where I normally have it (the most I’ve done before is 20 minutes in one session), so it was a harder workout. I think I’ll have to take a rest day tomorrow, especially after cycling to town and back in the morning. I’m not as achy overall as I was yesterday evening, but my lower legs are definitely feeling it, and I think they could do with a rest!
